We arrived in Hokitika around dinner time. We checked into the Shining Star Beachfront Accommodation and then, under the advice of the proprietor, went to Porky’s in downtown Hokitika for fish and chips. “You know, big ears; big nose,” replied the guy at the tiller when I asked what elephant fish was, the special that day. It’s a kind of shark. Not bad, but the trunk was a little chewy. Took a walk to the beach after dinner and watched the sun set.
