Onboard the Odyssea to visit the green mussel farms of the Marlborough Sounds. Floating by on the tide, the bright green mussels latch on to lines dangling from big rubber floats. They cling, grow, and then get knocked off by mussel farmers, who ship them to the other side of the world on ice where they are eaten with Tabasco or wasabi in swank wine bars. We ate them steamed fresh onboard with a local Marlborough chardonnay. They really are tasty and better if you don't look when popping them in your mouth.
