
From Hokitika we headed south on SH6 toward Fox Glacier. We passed up the offerings at the Puke Pub—possum jerky, pie, and pâté. Just weren’t hungry; although, we got you a t-shirt for Christmas. Instead, we stopped for tea in Whataroa to marvel at the pristine, and very blue, Whataroa River.
A gold panner was working the river with a floating vacuum contraption. From all outward appearances, he has yet to strike it rich, but he seemed to enjoy his work.
