Blue Pools

A few miles down SH6 from Cameron Flat are the Blue Pools. Hillery took a rest in the campervan while the kids and I took a walk through the woods to the Blue Pools, where the snow-fed Blue and Makarora rivers come together. Stunningly clear and blue, and shockingly cold, the rivers have made small deep spots—the pools—where they join. Abundant brown trout seem to hover in mid-air. Sadly, without towels, swimsuits, or diapers, we didn’t swim.
