Pancake Rocks & Blowholes Walk
The Buller River eventually makes its way to the Tasman Sea at the west coast town of Westport. We skirted Westport, taking SH6 south along the coast.
We were getting rather bored with remote, beautiful beaches when we arrived at the Paparoa National Park in Punakaiki.
Here we took the Pancake Rocks & Blowholes walk, a self-guided boardwalk out to the cliffs overlooking the beach. Unfortunately, the tide was out. So the only blowhole spouting was me. The pancake-like shape of the cliffs remains a geological mystery.
Afterward we had Tip Top Hokey Pokey ice cream at the roadside café across the street from the park.
